ASSINGTON MILL
ASSINGTON, NEAR SUDBURY, SUFFOLK
ABOUT US
Anne Holden used to run the Essex County Council Traditional Building Skills courses, as part of her job as a conservation officer. Earlier, she offered furniture conservation weekends from her own workshop. Needing a retirement project Anne, with her husband Bob Cowlin, bought Assington Mill in January 2003 after a four-year search for a watermill with its machinery intact in Essex and Suffolk. As luck would have it, they fell in love with a tiny derelict watermill with no machinery which came with a small farm in a most beautiful setting. To make the whole enterprise financially viable, Anne runs the courses and the holiday cottage, and Bob runs the farm, as well as going out to do real work as a chartered surveyor three days a week.
